Watch: AED and CPR Training Overview

What is AED (Defibrillator) Training?

AED training covers the recognition of cardiac arrest, CPR technique and the safe use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Early defibrillation can increase survival rates from cardiac arrest by up to 70%.

Why Become a AED (Defibrillator) Trainer?

There are over 30,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests in the UK each year. Qualified AED trainers are needed in workplaces, schools, sports facilities and community settings.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an AED?
An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is a portable device that analyses heart rhythm and delivers an electric shock to restore normal rhythm in cases of ventricular fibrillation or pulseless ventricular tachycardia.
Can anyone use an AED?
Yes — AEDs are designed for use by lay people. They provide audio and visual instructions and will only deliver a shock if it detects a shockable rhythm. Training improves confidence and speed of response.
How does early defibrillation improve survival?
For every minute without defibrillation, survival rates decrease by 7-10%. Early CPR and defibrillation within 3-5 minutes can achieve survival rates of 50-70%.
Are these AED resources free?
Yes — all 5 resources are completely free to download and use in your training sessions with no registration required.
