What is Face Fit Testing Training?

Face Fit Testing ensures that tight-fitting respiratory protective equipment (RPE) such as FFP2/FFP3 masks and half/full-face respirators provide an adequate seal. Required under COSHH Regulations 2002 and HSE guidance.

Why Become a Face Fit Testing Trainer?

Face fit testing is a legal requirement for tight-fitting RPE. Qualified face fit testers and assessors are needed in healthcare, construction, manufacturing and any environment where respiratory hazards exist.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is face fit testing?
Face fit testing checks that a tight-fitting facepiece (such as an FFP2/FFP3 mask or half-face respirator) provides an adequate seal to the wearer's face. It must be carried out by a competent person.
What are the two types of face fit test?
Qualitative fit testing uses the wearer's sense of taste or smell to detect leakage. Quantitative fit testing uses a machine to measure the actual amount of leakage. Quantitative testing is more objective and is required for some types of RPE.
How often should face fit testing be repeated?
Face fit testing should be repeated if the wearer's facial characteristics change significantly (e.g., significant weight change, dental work, scarring), if a different RPE model is used, or if there are concerns about the fit.
Are these face fit testing resources free?
Yes — all 5 resources are completely free to download and use in your training sessions with no registration required.
